News From Olympia International Horse Show 2009..


Eric van der Vleuten seized Olympia's Rolex FEI World qualifier presented by H & M, with an audacious display of speed jumping on VDL Groep Tomboy, a 10-year-old gelding by Emilion (Wellington x Farnese) Out of the KWPN Ster mare by Ahorn an exciting horse that Eric hopes will put him back into the Dutch team. The penultimate rider in the 11-rider jump-off, Eric overhauled the seemingly unbeatable target set by Ireland's Cian O'Connor on Rancorrado, eventual second, while last-to-go, France's popular Penelope Leprovost on the nine-year-old grey stallion Mylord Carthago HN, (Carthago x Jalsico B) could only manage clear in 35.97 to wind up in third . Ben Maher, who scored some valuable World Cup points for the final in Geneva in April, was also clear in the nail-biting finale, to finish fourth and best of the British riding Robin Hood W by Animo (Almez Z x Libero H) out of the International Jumping mare "Melissimo" Libero H x Jasper (The Little One)


Guy Williams wins the H&M Santa Stakes 1.60m showjumping competiton at London Olympia on the eight year old grey gelding Dunkan by Adiamo Z Animo (Almez Z x Taj Mahal) only two others jumped a double clear around the big 1.60 track, Christina Liebherr on her 11 year old KWPN Mount L.B Robin Hood by Calvados (Uriel x Ibrahim) out of the Prestatie mare Laantje R (Concorde x Farn) The last of the three double clears was Swedish Rider Svante Johansson riding her Swedish Warmblood Caramel KS by the Holstein stallion Cardento VDL (Capitol I x Lord) out of a Voltaire grand daughter. third to sixth postions had faster times but with four faults, the Nabab De Reve x Heartbreaker "Wido" ridden by French rider Saoud Bin Fawaz Al Chalaan riding for France took fourth place, Steve Guerdat on the Numero Uno x Julio Marnier eight year old gelding Urgent III taking fifth and Germany's Max Kuhner riding the nine year old Austrian bred Holstein stallion "Coeur de Lion" (Coriano x Cassini)
Five riders shared the prize money in the Puissance Cake. Olympia's famous wall proved too much for all contestants this year with not one rider clearing the final height at 2.05.The top five were Penelope Leprevost (Johnny Boy ll), Italy’s European team silver medallist Natale Chiaudani on Vigaro Z, Michael Whitaker on the tall chestnut Fairview Cyber-Space, Ireland’s Cian O’Connor on the promising and neat-jumping mare Calistra, and last year’s joint winner Ellen Whitaker on Ladina.

Pius Schwizer wins the 1.50m accumulator with a time of 46.74 seconds on the bay Swiss warmblood gelding "Unique X" sired by the Swiss Approved sire "Ulysesse De Thurin" x Grand Veneur x Quastor (Ibrahim) out of a Swiss mare sired by the sBs Belgian approved stallion Orymate De St-Hermelle (Inducteur x Almez Z x A L'Honeur) The win has propelled Puis into the number one riders rankings with Ellen Whitaker in second place.

A fabulous win for the Egyptian young rider Abdel Said that has captured the hearts of the audience in the Earls Court Olmpia Chistmas Cracker International 1.50m show jumping competition scooping up the £4920 prize fund riding the Belgian Warmblood "Avenir" by Chin Chin son "Phin Phin" x Flamenco x Codex (Cottage Son) Australian rider Edwina Alexander came in second place with 0.8th of a second behind the winner riding the 13 year old Chestnut son of Le Tot De Semilly out of a Quidam Revelle mare. Ellen Whitakers time was simply not fast enough but jumped a fabulous double clear on the 12 year old "Equimax Ocolado" by Habsburg (Burgraff x Amor) out of the ster pref prestatie mare "Ipinacolada" by Calvados x Cadmus



Nicola Gillespie's 15 year old "GIG Portofino" ridden by Micheal Whitaker wins the 1.50m Christmas Pudding Stakes at Olympia claiming the £3000 prize. Second equal went to Olivier Guillon ridings Selle Francais mount "Lord De Theize" by Tolbiac Rouge with zero faults and a time of 35.75secs matched by Nick Skelton riding the grey contender Holstein stallion Cascavelle.... The young Ben Maher finished a tenth of a second behind Nick on Quainton Stud's KWPN gelding Robin Hood (Animo x Libero H) currently ranking second in the WBFSH individual show jumping rankings with Frenchman Kevin Staut riding the nine year old Selle Francais "Major De Coquerie" (Ahorn x Jalisco B) on a time of 36.26 secs with the Swiss competitor Pius Schwizer riding the Swiss Warmblood Unique X by Ulysse De Thurin x Urymate De Ste Hermelle


Hardly a suprising result as the worlds dressage heart throb "Moorlands Totilas" (Gribaldi x Glendale (Nimmerdor) ridden by Dutchman Edward Gal wins the FEI WORLD CUP DRESSAGE Grand Prix Freestyle to Music with yet another fabulous performance scoring an outstanding 92.3 10 points ahead of fellow Dutch rider Adelinde Cornelissen on the 12 year old chestnut gelding "Parzival" (Jazz x Ulft)


The three British riders nonetheless performed remarkably well on home ground with an impressive third place for British rider Carl Hester on Liebling II (Lorentin x Konigspark xx) who rode an impressive and relaxed test to finish just 1.1 point ahead of British colleague Laura Bechtolsheimer riding Andretti H (Arking XX x Cavalier) who's performance appeared a little tense gaining 77.350 points. Fifth and sixth places went to Richard Davison on "Hiscox Artemis" with their score of 75.150 points and a very close behind him was US rider Catherine Haddad riding "Cadilac" with 73.600 points. Both 1st and 2nd places continually add to the KWPN's top ranking WBFSH positions with both Jazz and Gribaldi as KWPN approved sires.


Anticipation is building as we count down to the FEI World Cup Dressage qualifier at the London International Horse Show, Olympia 15-21 December 2009. The small but quality field includes the world number one Edward Gal with wow stallion Moorland Totilas and promises an exhilarating two days of high calibre competition.

13 riders are now confirmed to start in the grand prix on Tuesday 14th December and all will go through to compete in the grand prix freestyle on the evening of Wednesday 15th. Last year’s winner and European gold medalist.
